Our review (November 2004 and September 2009)

Tenerife has an abundance of good places to stay with the majority of courses in the south, where the main tourist resorts are located.

The courses we have played are Golf del Sur (more than once), Costa Adeje, Golf Las Americas and Buenavista Golf.

Although Buenavista is the not the easiest to get to it sure was well worth it and in our opinion a must play course.

Golf courses

Other course not mentioned above are: Abama Golf, Amarilla Golf (next door to Golf del Sur) and Real Club de Golf de Tenerife (opened in 1932) and we will be playing all three in the very near future. For beginners there is also Centro de Golf Los Palos (9 holes) and not to be forgotten, Tecina Golf (on the neighbouring island of La Gomera) which we will endeavour to play sooner rather than later!

Golf Courses
Golf del Sur
Features
  • Opened in 1987
  • 27 holes - Links, North and South
  • Has hosted Tenerife Open
  • Links - 5821 metres (back tees - slope 131)
  • North - 5764 metres (back tees - slope 135)
  • South - 5897 metres (back tees - slope 137)
Our opinion

Busy course but enjoyable with many tough holes.

Well worth the trip but there are some more stunning courses on the island.

Costa Adeje Golf
Features
  • Opened in 1998
  • 18 and 9 hole courses
  • 6252 metres (back tees - slope 133)
  • By the sea
Our opinion

One of the courses to play when visiting the island, a real challenge with some very interesting features by the ocean.

Interesting stone wall terraced feature from when the land was used as a banana plantation.

Golf Las Americas
Features
  • Constructed in 1988
  • Close to resort hotels at Playa de las Americas
  • 6051 metres (back tees - slope 126)
Our opinion

Lakes combined with gently sloping terrain make this an interesting course.

Not the most difficult track if you avoid the water and not the most awe inspiring on the island.

Buenavista Golf
Features
  • Designed by Severiano Ballesteros
  • By the ocean with some holes hugging the cliffs
  • 6019 metres (off back tees)
  • North-western corner of island
  • Golfing paradise?
Our opinion

A real gem of a course, just a bit out of the way but well worth the trip.

This is one course we would want to play again.
